Filmed over eight years, Shutdown: The San Onofre Story presents an in-depth look at the Southern California citizens who spring into action after learning their power plant could cause catastrophic damage to their homes and their health.
Told in three acts, and juxtaposed against the fallout of the Fukushima disaster, the problematic plant and the grassroots movement that forms around it, is expressed through the eyes of five citizen-activists. Their struggles and triumphs against the plant’s operator, Southern California Edison, is the driving force of our narrative. It culminates in a deeply disturbing and ongoing situation, which could result in a radioactive disaster that directly impacts the entire nation.
